Kodak Alaris Delivers on the Promise of Taming Big Data at Global Directions 2013

This week, Kodak Alaris' Document Imaging business is hosting Global Directions 2013, an educational technology conference designed to help CIOs, IT decision makers and business leaders benefit from solutions that enable intelligent information management – the ability to get the right information to the right person at the right time at the point of impact.

On day one, attendees received visionary insights from senior executives at Google, Microsoft, IBM, Kodak Alaris and Salesforce.com, including an opening keynote address from crowd favorite Ray Kurzweil, the internationally-renowned author, inventor and futurist. The balance of Global Directions 2013 included more than 30 information sessions from leading brands and solution providers with case studies as well as practical, actionable advice on how businesses can leverage the vast amount of data they receive from multiple sources to make better, faster and more cost-efficient business decisions.

"Global Directions is dedicated to the 'business side' of big data and the way an organization can use technology and solution approaches that are now mature enough to create fast data solutions, " said Dolores Kruchten, President, Kodak Alaris' Document Imaging division. "The conference shows many examples of the efficiencies generated by intelligent information management solutions by applying new technologies such as language understanding to automate business processes. Kodak Alaris' Document Imaging business is well-positioned to help companies extract and manage data, streamline business workflows and enhance customer interactions for improved business results."

In his keynote presentation, Kurzweil illustrated how technology advancements and associated returns are exponential, painting a picture of the continual evolution for both business and health applications. Keynotes from Google, Microsoft, IBM and Salesforce.com emphasized how the explosive growth of information from unstructured data sources is creating an increased demand for new ways to handle, interpret and synthesize data from traditional documents and databases as well as from email, social media and voicemail.

During a panel discussion moderated by Michael Hickins, senior editor, The Wall Street Journal and editor of the CIO Journal, Kurzweil and other executives urged attendees to embrace big data. The panelists from Google, Microsoft, IBM and Salesforce.com discussed technologies available to solve business challenges including customer retention and fraud prevention. Making this technology accessible and affordable creates new opportunities enabled by the seamless analysis of unstructured information and conventional databases to deliver the best business results. Successful fast data solutions require integration with business critical systems as well as vendors partnering broadly in order to develop impactful solutions. Users were encouraged to start executing their strategies with smaller projects in the short term and tackling broader implementations once they demonstrate initial success.
