Huawei Symantec Unveils OCEANSPACE and SECOSPACE

Huawei Symantec launches latest storage and security products;

leverages IT distributor ACA Pacific for deeper market reach

KUALA LUMPUR, 22 April 2010 – Huawei Symantec Technologies Co., Ltd. (‘Huawei Symantec’), China's leading security and storage solution provider, today announces the launch of its latest storage and security innovations, known as ‘Oceanspace’ and ‘Secospace’ respectively, for the Malaysian market.

First unveiled in Beijing earlier this year, ‘Oceanspace’ and ‘Secospace’ will be offered to the local market via one of its appointed Malaysian IT distributor ACA Pacific Technology (M) Sdn Bhd (‘ACA Pacific’).

Both ‘Oceanspace’ and ‘Secospace’ are evolutionary technologies developed by Huawei Symantec, riding on its expertise in the two closely related IT areas of storage and security.

According to Huawei Symantec (Malaysia) Channels Sales Director Ngo Hea Chee, storage and security share certain commonalities as their complimentary roles in companies striving to achieve better data management.

“The latest offering of Oceanspace and Secospace exhibits how Huawei Symantec understands the mutual and integral dependency between storage and security. The products were designed with this understanding and expertise, to help businesses reduce operational overheads in managing their investments in the important IT areas of storage and security.”

The ‘Oceanspace’ range of storage products for the Malaysia market were specifically designed to overcome the long-time bottleneck issues faced by Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in their storage space and architecture – where databases, emails, files and ERP applications are demanding more and more space. ‘Oceanspace’ encapsulates a converged storage strategy that mitigates complicated IT maintenance and energy-consumption issues, and keeps cost low by combining capacity and security into a single overhead.

Meanwhile, ‘Secospace’ is a new-generation hardware firewall range that works seamlessly with enterprise storage system to protect data during the peaks of network traffic, driven by both traditional applications (data transmission, VoIP and virtual private networks) and Internet-based services (such as net surfing, online games, video calling and social networking).

Huawei Symantec’s underlying theme behind Secospace is to enable companies to ‘Realize Business Value’ by treating security as a holistic and proactive factor to help customers achieve their business value.

Vincent Choy, Business Manager at ACA Pacific says that ACA Pacific has already started carrying the Oceanspace and Secospace range of solutions for the local market. “For Malaysia, the product range carried by ACA Pacific for both of Huawei Symantec’s latest storage and security lines cater to business requirements from low- to high-end specifications; for SMEs in the manufacturing sector, right up to large storage-security projects in the public sector.”

He adds, “Since the appointment in June 2009, we have identified and trained five channel partners who share the same goals as Huawei Symantec and have the ability to provide customers with first class service and support. We are working very closely with them to drive Huawei Symantec business through direct customer engagements and demand generation activities.”

“We are pleased that they have come out with Oceanspace and Secospace as this is precisely the time that the Converged Storage and Security trend is hitting our shores - driving local businesses to look at more innovative ways to manage their data in a more secured manner, and in more cost efficient ways for higher returns on investments”, adds Choy.

Sudev Bangah, Senior Analyst and Consultant from IDC ASEAN, says that the trend for converged storage and security would be further driven by Cloud Computing and its virtualization concept.

“Cloud Computing in an enterprise setting promises flexibility, cost optimization and faster turnaround. Worldwide IT spending on cloud services is set to reach USD42 billion by 2012 as this virtualization technology offers a much cheaper way for businesses to buy and use IT, and store data.”

“Virtualization has been a focus in the ASEAN region, however, its adoption rate has still been lower than more developed economies. But with key verticals such as the public sector, financial and manufacturing industries increasing their interest in storage via the cloud, the key question on the security of sensitive data comes into question.”

He says that service providers are then forced to boost their credibility by increasing their accountability, offering services based on key global certifications and governance frameworks, as well as to ensure stringent encryption processes are in place.

Since its inception in May 2007, Huawei Symantec has retained 80% annual growth with close to USD300 million. For Malaysia, Ngo indicates a company’s target of 20% growth in revenues by end of 2010.
